XCircuit - New development version 3.7.6

E-mail
Friday, 26 February 2010 11:39

XCircuit a  schematic drawing tool targeted at producing nice publishable schematic  capturesXCircuit is a powerful open source schematic capture program. It has most of the features of a general purpose drawing package and includes a symbol library facility that can be used to store user defined schematic symbols. Schematics, libraries of vacuum tube, flow charts, chemical diagrams, and even musical scores may be created with XCircuit by loading the freely available symbol libraries. A mathematical symbol typesetting capability is included in the program. XCircuit uses the PostScript language for its output and library files. The PostScript created by XCircuit is human readable which makes manual editing possible. In this new development release;

  • Corrected an error due to the new changes in selection of edit objects. The error prevents inserting a parameter into a label.

Fritzing - Version 0.3.16b is out

Fritzing can be seen as an Electronic Design Automation tool for non-engineers: the input metaphor is inspired by the environment of designers (the breadboard-based prototype), so that it is easy to transfer a hardware sketch to the software by using a drag-and-drop-based GUI to copy your sketchFritzing is an open-source initiative that allows you to virtually design electronic circuits on a breadboard (although you could design circuits that aren't on a breadboard). This could save a lot of hours working on a breadboard if you have this amazing software at hand. In this new version of Fritzing a high-level summary of changes are:

  • Snap to grid (experimental, switch it on in the View menu);
  • Use arrow keys to move parts around (hold Shift to move by ten steps);
  • Improved rats nest coloring (less obtrusive, and more reliable dimming if a net has been routed);
  • Replaced zoom widget by a nice slider;
  • Now fits on netbook screens as well (side-effect of the above);
  • New parts: RGBB LED, LCD screen, slider pot, small rotary knob pot, Arduino pico and more mystery parts;
  • Dutch translation;
  • Bug fixes.
But if you're interested in the detailed changes, take a look at the individual code changes clicking herehere.

gEDA a suite of electronic design automation (EDA) toolsgEDA is a collection of tools which are used to make electrical circuit design, schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, and production. An new stable version (1.6.1-20100214) of gEDA has been released. This is the second stable release of the 1.6.x series. The purpose of this release is bug fixing. Major highlights of this version include (in mostly random order):

  • General: added and updated lots of language translations in libgeda, gschem, and gattrib;
  • libgeda/gschem: added accelerator mnemonics for root menus in gschem;
  • Bugs fixed: fixed rendering with zoomed out dashed lines, fixed for some manpage issues, fixed slot editing routines to not edit inherited attributes.
The above is only a summary of the changes in this release. You can view all the commits/changes/authors for this release (version 1.6.1) herehere.

domus.Link a web based frontend for Heyu programA web based frontend for Heyu, domus.Link is a program designed primarily to use to X10 in home automation. Main differences from version 1.0.1 consist in minor bug fix and enhancements release and updated language files, e.g.;

  • Added new domus.Link GPL header to domus.Link created files;
  • Added new Utility interface to execute heyu commands directly from domus.Link in the admin menu;
  • Updated document files for INSTALL and LICENSE;
  • Updated French language files;
  • Order language files.

domus.Link requires a GNU/Linux distribution, Apache and PHP. For more information about domus.Link click herehere.

GerbV a viewer for Gerber files; these files are  generated from PCB CAD system and sent to PCB manufacturers as basis  for the manufacturing processGerbV (GerberViewer) is a viewer for Gerber files; these files are generated from PCB CAD system and sent to PCB manufacturers as basis for the manufacturing process. The different layers of the PCB are separated into different files. Gerbv is a program which can display, edit, export, and do other manipulation of file formats used in PCB design (RS274X, Excellon drill, and pick-and-place). The following is a summary of the changes which went into new version of GerbV, for a complete list of changes refer to ChangeLog file;

  • Fix bug parsing cirular moves with trailing zero suppression;
  • Fix a bug in the rendering of text in exported PDF files;
  • Fix sidebar bug displaying small scale and translations in X;
  • Update some information in the "About..." dialog;
  • Fix regression in FAST mode rendering of flashed apertures.
